The Philippines is affected by an average of 20 storms and hurricanes each year. The normal life of the people in the Philippines has been paralyzed by the super typhoon Roy. The government has announced that 21 people have been killed in heavy rains so far.

A super typhoon named Roy hit the southern and central part of the Philippines. This caused severe damage in Sierra Leone and Zurich. Power outages across the island have left people without telephone connections for the past two days.

As a precautionary measure, the government evacuated 3 lakh, people, to safer places along the route of the hurricane. Authorities said there was no significant casualty. However, the wind was blowing at a speed of 270 km per hour, causing extensive material damage. Authorities say 21 people have been killed so far in heavy rains and landslides.

The daily islands that were first hit by Hurricane Roy have been cut off from the rest of the island. Daily Governor Arlene Buck-Aw said most of the houses there had been leveled and numerous vehicles had been damaged.

The governor also demanded that drinking water, food and medicine be provided immediately. As the daily is cut off from other areas, there is a problem in meeting the basic needs of the people. Flights have been canceled in the southern and central regions. More than 18,000 troops and emergency personnel were involved in the rescue operation.
